A trio of rotary clubs have raised more than £600 to help eradicate polio across the globe.
Members of the Banstead, Epsom and Ewell partnership opened a bric-a-brac drop-in shop in the Ashley Centre last week, and hope to raise about £1,000 from selling on donated goods.
The three clubs were reminded of the devastation polio caused throughout the globe before modern immunisation during a Rotary Day meeting at Cuddington Golf Club on February 23.
But speaker John Dumbrell, the district international affairs chairman, also highlighted the endemic danger polio still poses in Nigeria, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Rotary International is working to raise $200m to provide medical personnel, laboratory equipment and educational materials for health workers and parents.
