The fate of parking charges in Richmond and Bushy parks will be decided in the House of Lords next week.
MP for Richmond Park, Susan Kramer, has learned the Lords will be deciding whether the Royal Parks’ controversial parking charges should become law on Wednesday.
The Government approved the plan to charge drivers in both parks up to £1 an hour for car parking – but if Lib Dem and Tory peers vote against the move, the majority they hold in the House will force a rethink.
Conservative parliamentary hopeful Zac Goldsmith has claimed his party will scrap the scheme if alternative fundraising measures can be found – but unlike the Liberal Democrats, the party has yet to make any firm pledge.
Ms Kramer urged campaigners to join her in Westminster to witness the crucial vote, which takes place on March 10, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
She hopes to gather people outside Parliament at 6.45pm.
