Metropolitan Police 0 FOLKESTONE INVICTA 1
Top-of-the-table Folkestone Invicta treated the first half of Saturday's best forgotten Ryman Division One South game like a practice session.
The Police, on the other hand, with a record of nine successive games undefeated, did all the attacking and should have scored with the chances they created.
Gary Drewett had a couple of headers that should have hit the target.
Craig Carley, playing up front, also harassed the Folkestone defence with attacking runs.
Rob Smith finally hit the ball goalwards but Jack Delo the Folkestone keeper managed to hang on to it but only at the second attempt.
Another great build-up saw Lee Gledhill cross into the visitors’ goal area, which confused the defenders.
The ball alas bounced in front of a waiting Drewett who was also confused and was only able to chest the ball over the bar.
The Seasiders' only chance to score was a gift on 40 minutes.
Police keeper Mo Maan made a rare mistake and miskicked a clearance straight to Liam Dickson, who passed the ball forward to striker Brendan Cass to drive the ball into the back of the Police net for what proved the only goal of the match. Into the second half and it was still the Police attacking this time for an equaliser.
Gledhill had two shots cleared off the line. Carley had a couple blocked in the six-yard area.
Police manager Jim Cooper made three substitutions.
One of them, Liam Wright, was unlucky when his 22-yard shot took a slight deflection but was still brilliantly saved by Jack Delo.
With minutes remaining, Ron Edwards got his head to a Craig Brown cross but the ball soared over the cross bar. It was one of those days for the Police.
