Kingston and Richmond residents will receive more personalised flood warning as of this week, thanks to Environment Agency improvements.

Until Wednesday, March 10, flood warning areas covered long stretches of rivers, which covered several communities at risk from flooding.

This meant flood warnings were sent out to the entire stretch of river, even though every part may not have been at risk.

The new flood warning areas are smaller and more specific to communities, increasing the relevance of each warning and increasing the number of flood warning areas along some rivers.

The river Mole has already benefited from the targeted flood warnings programme and the Hogsmill will benefit from the new service.

The floodline number has also changed to 0845 9881188.

Louise Guy, Environment Agency flood incident management team leader, said: “It is important that people make a note of the new floodline quick dial number for their local river so they are able to quickly access the correct information when using the floodline service.”
