Students from Esher Church of England High School joined up with their peers from about 700 schools on Thursday, March 11, to take part in a BBC project aimed at encouraging kids to engage in the news.
The 33 year 8 students from the More Lane school spent the day at Surrey University’s television studio in Guildford reporting on recent events and topical issues for the BBC News School Report.
They had spent the past few months training with journalists and producing their own reports to be broadcast.
BBC news presenter and ex-teacher Huw Edwards, who gave his support to the project, said: “I’m involved because I want to give young people the chance to make the news themselves, and I want to share the principles of good journalism.”
