A 32-year-old driver has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a pedestrian in Kingston Hill in October, while more than twice the legal alcohol limit.
Ricardo Bacelo, of Innes Gardens in Putney, faced one charge of causing the death of John Barrett at the junction of Coombe Park and Kingston Hill on October 9 last year, while having 75mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
The legal limit is 35mg per 100ml.
Mr Bacelo, who spoke only to confirm his name, age and address, and did not enter a plea at the hearing at Kingston Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Police were called to the scene at 9.05pm after Mr Barrett, 56, of no fixed abode, was hit by a Vauxhall Vectra, the court heard.
He was taken to Kingston Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Mr Bacelo was bailed and will appear at Kingston Crown Court on May 17 for a plea listing hearing.
