A topping out ceremony on Monday marked the structural completion of two new care homes.
The final two buildings of Croydon Council’s new ‘Homes for the Future’ care homes have been completed. Addington Heights Resource Centre in New Addington and Langley Oaks Resource Centre in Selsdon.
The Addington building, at 1 Milne Park West, is expected to be ready for occupation next month. Langley Oaks, which will provide nursing, residential and day care facilities for older people with mental frailties should be in use by June.
The two projects form half of Croydon Council’s £38m PFI project that is intended to transform care for older, vulnerable people by replacing dated and inadequate residential buildings with modern facilities conforming to the highest standards.
The first two homes, Heavers Resource Centre in Selhurst and Fellows Court in Addiscombe were opened in August and October 2008. Heavers is fast becoming known as the flagship centre for dementia sufferers - the only one of its kind in the country - offering integrated health and social care for older people with mental frailties all on one site.
Fellows Court, is an extra care housing development for the vulnerable older people, with physical disability requiring a high level of support. Residents there are encouraged to live a healthy lifestyle and have easy access to medical services, helping them to stay independent longer.
Councillor Lindsay Frost, cabinet member for health and adult social care, said: “We are delighted to have reached this important milestone of the project, bringing closer the day we can provide our older people with the modern, energy-efficient facilities, accommodation and services they require across the borough.”
