The do's and dont's of the Oscar's 2010. If the LBD is a favourite in our wardrobe, this new season has seen the resurrection of pure elegance with delicate hues as well as dazzling bold prints. The end of the Spring-summer catwalk season has met with the Oscar's awards. But did our celebrities have made the most of it?

Those who got it right.

The "Precious actress" Gabourey Sidibe's blue dress was decorated with silver beads in a floral pattern and subtlely cover her upper arms. The right way to dress curves.

Helen Mirren was wearing a grey chiffon gown from Badgley Mischka and looked absolutely stunning with its sparkling sheer sleeves. It suits Helen's shape and colour palette.

Charlize Theron chose an amethyst gown by John Galliano for Dior with two folded rosettes not on the bustline but on the bust itself. This is such a success, colour and shape are just a perfect match!

Rachel McAdams went the print route. Hers was a draped strapless in dusty shades of blue and grey. So trendy, so feminine, so fresh. Perfect on her!

Penelope Cruz arrived in another of her beloved princess gowns from Donna Karan, this one burgundy, with her hair swept back like a flamenco dancer. The deep luscious tone of this draped strapless dress does much to complement the actress's colouring.

Could have done better....

Our Oscar winning actress, Sandra Bullock dressed the part, wearing a gleaming, metallic, slim-fitting gown that seemed fashioned after the Oscar statuette itself. She wore the shiniest dress of the awards ceremony but again silver tends to drain her. Goldy tones would have been here again more flattering.

Kate Winslet looked like an old-school movie star in her sleek, strapless gold gown by Yves Saint Laurent and Deco-inspired $2.5 million yellow-diamond necklace from Tiffany & Co. The YSL panelled bustier is an unusual choice for the actress who opt for more simple and classic shapes. But it flatters her figure and is simply and elegantly accessorized. Would have been perfect with goldy tones to complement her skin tone.

The ones who failed.

As much as I admire Sigourney Weaver as an actress she really missed it at the Oscar when choosing to dress with the Greecian look which is so outdated. A more vibrant colour would have been more flattering too.

Mariah Carey promised that the slit on her navy Valentino dress would blow wide open if the wind kicked up. The sweetheart neckline of her Valentino gown isn't right for her curvaceous figure.

Hilary Swank arrived at the Vanity Fair party in a dramatic sparkly outfit with a daring plunging neckline from Versace. Quite a contrast with the more traditional gowns defiles the celebrities chose to wear. This style might have been more appropriate for a VIP party rather than an Oscar Soiree!

So why some do get it right while others remain bland or risk a fashion faux-pas?

The key to pulling off colour is all about finding the right hues. Getting it right also involves finding the perfect cut that flatters your silhouette. Make the most of the colour and style and you will get an immediate and powerful impact.

So show off your colours and your personality to its max! Everyone can get it right and certainly not all our celebs do!
