A Carshalton adventurer is embarking on a 4,000-mile summer road trip to raise money for African children.

Kenneth Asafo-Adjei, 36, from Nightingale Road, is preparing for an epic drive from London to Uganda with two friends this summer.

The trailblazers want to raise £2,000 to sponsor three African children for two years - and plan to visit all of them as they drive through the continent.

The adventurers expect to travel to Naples via Geneva, before taking a ferry to Tunisia via Sicily. They will then head down through Libya, Egypt, Sudan and Kenya before arriving in Uganda.

The trio plan to set off on May 8 and expect to arrive in the Ugandan capital Kampala in the middle of June.

Mr Asafo-Adjei, a software developer, will be joined for the trip by 34-year-old Wimbledon management consultant, Roger Waluube and his housemate, 25-year-old accountant Obia Ejikeme.

Mr Asafo-Adjei is currently searching for a vehicle to use on the trip, such as a Toyota Jeep, and is hoping someone locally can help them out.

The team’s onboard mechanic, Mr Waluube, has even enrolled in car maintenance evening classes in case of desert breakdowns.

The travelling trinity are also raising money for education and health projects in Uganda’s Rukiga district, where they expect to finish the trip.

Mr Asafo-Adjei said: “It’s an opportunity to raise awareness of the issues faced by African children. It also gives us a great opportunity to meet the children we have been sponsoring plus it will be a real adventure.”

The team was inspired to take on the challenge by Ewan MacGregor and Charlie Boorman’s motorbike trip in the hit TV series Long Way Down.

The trio will also be sharing their progress with the world through a blog. To sponsor the challenge visit justgiving.com/londontokampala2010.
