Two men were arrested in connection with a serious assault outside a Gipsy Hill pub on Sunday morning.
A 46-year-old from Caterham was left with a broken cheekbone, cuts to his face and bruising to his chest when he was attacked outside the Gipsy Tavern in Gispy Road shortly after midnight.
Police said the victim, who was taken to hospital and later discharged, was assaulted as he left the pub. His friends had been involved in an earlier "altercation" at the venue, according to a police spokeswoman.
The two men, aged 23 and 27, of Salter's Hill, were bailed pending further police enquiries.
