11-WI-glassing A woman who glassed a female reveller in a Wimbledon nightclub is wanted by the police.

The 23-year-old victim, who was partying with her boyfriend, needed 38 stitches after having a glass shattered in her face.

Police said the assault happened after an argument between the two women at about 2.50am on February 19, inside Po Na Na in the Broadway.

Detective Constable Neil Goddard of Wimbledon CID said: “We really want to locate and arrest this woman for her violent attack on a young woman enjoying her night out, and are following up several lines of enquiry right now.”

The assault took place just a few hundred metres from the spot where a teenager was stabbed during a fight on a night out earlier this month.

This later attack, in which two other young men suffered head injuries, also took place after an argument between strangers who had been drinking in the town centre’s bars.

Two men needed hospital treatment after the brawl in the Broadway at about 11.45pm on March 2.

Chief Superintendent Chris Bourlet, borough commander of Merton police, said statistics showed violent crime was falling in the borough but he was committed to reducing it even further.

He said: “Addressing alcohol related violence will be a priority for us in the coming year.”

He described Wimbledon’s town centre as one of the safest he knew, and said the police worked well with bouncers and bar owners to tackle crime and disorder.

He also said his officers were running operations to crack down on antisocial behaviour with a “firm but fair” approach.

Anyone with information about the Po Na Na attack should call Wimbledon CID on 0300 123 1212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 1111.
