An injury time goal saw ten-man Croydon Athletic's hopes of a quadruple dashed as they lost the Championship Manager Isthmian League Cup semi-final 1-0 to Wealdstone.

The match started tentatively with neither team looking like opening the scoring with any real goal attempts for much of the first half.

Taurean McDonald-Roberts, making his full debut for the Rams, looked to have some nice touches and he had a chance that went just over the bar in the 22nd minute.

Croydon did not really test the keeper in the opening exchanges.

Marco Bianchi also made his debut for the Rams, slotting into defence at right back and allowing Joe Howe to play the role of centre half.

In the 40th minute Jeremy Williams was booked by a rather over-zealous referee for a strong challenge and then just a minute later was shown the red for a challenge on the goalkeeper although he seemed to come away with the ball.

With Croydon down to 10 men substitutions were made with Ben Godfrey and Rory Hill coming on for Leslie Thompson and Tom Bolarinwa.

Hill had a shot from 20 yards the Wealdstone keeper managed to get behind and deny the visitors the lead.

As the half wore on both teams started pushing up looking for the winner and Hill again sent a ball across the box that just failed to connect with the oncoming Croydon strikers.

Godfrey had a strike in the 75th minute from 30 yards but again the keeper managed to retrieve it.

At the other end of the pitch, Andy Little pulled off a good save after the oncoming Wealdstone attack managed to break free in the box.

The 10 men of Croydon were battling well despite their handicap and the match looked delicately balanced.

With the prospect of extra time on the cards, Wealdstone managed to grab the winner in injury time with Greg Ngoyi picking up the ball from midfield and shooting it home and the referee immediately blew the final whistle just as the game restarted.
