OBITUARY OF ANGELA DOLAN
BERYL, VIOLA, TERESA, ANGELA DOLAN (née Atchley)

Was born on the 17th September 1927, in Wallasey, Cheshire. She was educated in Maris Stella High School, New Brighton and later in Notre Dame High School, Liverpool.

She trained as an actress, successfully passing her LAMDA with honours and later working at the Embassy, Swiss Cottage, London. Soon afterwards she ran her own drama and speech training school for a time in Wallasey.

After undergoing a secretarial training course she worked as a secretary for the Cunard, then for a firm of Solicitors and finally for the partners in an architectural practice in Liverpool, where she met her much loved future husband, Dennis Francis Dolan.

On 27th June 1963 she and Dennis married and settled in Chiswick, W4, where she worked first for a firm of local contractors and next for John West Foods in the City as a secretary PA.

When her husband opened his own Quantity Surveying practice in 1966 she joined him as his secretary and continued in that capacity until his sudden and unexpected death in November 1996.

In the 70’s Angela broadcast talks and features, first on BBC Radio London and then for Woman’s Hour, the BBC World Service and the British Forces Network.

She and her husband also started a sound magazine for the blind called “Soundaround”.

In 1979 she collaborated with her husband in writing a book, published by Mac-Millans, entitled “The British Construction Industry: An Introduction”. In addition, she and her husband edited their church magazine “Sales Talk” for 5 years and before his death was co-writing children’s books and a novel with him.

After Dennis died she took a course in proofreading obtaining her diploma in 1998 and then forged a new career for herself as a freelance proofreader.

Ever since moving from Chiswick to Hampton Hill she and her husband have been members of the Hampton Hill Association and for some years sat on its Social Committee producing two concerts in aid of charity in St James Parish Church, Park Road, Hampton Hill.

Angela died on the 4th March 2010 and her funeral will take place on Tuesday 23rd March at 10.30am at the Church of St Francis de Sales, 16 Wellington Road, Hampton Hill, Middlesex TW12 1HS.
