A suspended Surrey Police constable has been charged with an offence under the Serious Crime Act 2007 and three counts of theft.

PC Dustin Hunter, 29, was arrested at Clacketts Lane service station on the M25 motorway on Saturday morning by Surrey officers following an investigation.

PC Hunter appeared at Woking Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with being involved in a plot to rob a jewellers in Oxted, and with stealing two police hats, two reflective jackets, a badge and two polo shirts from Surrey Police, and a Royal Mail uniform.

He was charged with encouraging or assisting the commission of an offence, namely robbery, two counts of theft of police uniforms and one count of theft of a post office uniform.

PC Hunter was previously based at Banstead Police Station and had already been suspended from duty, charged with one count of possession of Class B drugs with intent to supply, in January.

He did not enter a plea and has been remanded in custody. He will next appear at Winchester Crown Court on June 28.
