Firefighters were called to a pan fire in a Tooting Chinese restaurant yesterday afternoon.

One man, who was sleeping in the flat above, was rescued and treated for smoke inhalation.

The four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to Tooting High Street just before 4pm and put the fire out within an hour.

Part of the ducting leading from the ground to the second floors was damaged by fire.

Fire crews from Tooting, Norbury and Wimbledon stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
