Chilli Chutney serves a delicious combination of authentic and contemporary Lahori food in its fully licensed restaurant in Streatham High Road.
An upmarket Pakistani restaurant in appearance and quality, but at a reasonable price, it has had a dedicated following of diners for many years.
On a visit to the restaurant, Your Local Guardian first sampled a selection of its starters.
One of the restaurant’s specialities, Chilli Chutney Fried Chillies (large mountain chillies filled with cheese and deep fried in batter, £2.95) were both different and delicious.
The Lamb Seekh Kebabs (Freshly minced lamb mixed with spices, barbecued in a clay oven, £2.95) are wonderful for any diner who likes a bit of heat in heat in their food.
We were recommended to have them with a refreshing – and freshly made - mango lassi (£1.95) Our mains were more familiar to those more familiar with Indian cooking. Tarka Dahl (£5.20) Aloo Gosht (A traditional curry of potato with lamb, £6.95), were both excellent.
But our favourite was the Chicken Hara Masala (Bonelss chicken pieces cooked in onion based curry with fresh coriander and green herbs, £6.95) All were served with rice and naan, and by friendly and helpful staff.
All in all the restaurant comes highly recommended, and a short walk from both Streatham and Streatham Hill stations, is well worth a visit for both locals and those who live further afield.
Chutney is located at 20-21 The High Parade, Streatham High Road in Streatham (SW16 1EX). Visit the restaurant online at www.chillichutney.com.
