A black employee has won her case against the Home Office for racial discrimination. Devaline McKenzie, who worked for the Home Office's Immigration and Nationality Directorate (IND) in Croydon, won compensation after an employment tribunal heard how her claims of bullying were not properly investigated.
The 38-year-old, from West Norwood, had worked for the directorate's ministerial cases unit until she left this April due to the stress of the case.
The mother-of-one said despite requesting a transfer from her office on account of alleged harassment that the Home Office failed to investigate her claims or consider her request for a transfer. The London South employment tribunal unanimously ruled that the Home Office had discriminated against Ms McKenzie on racial grounds.
A decision on what compensation Ms McKenzie will be awarded is expected in four weeks. A spokesman for the Home Office said: "We do not comment about individual cases."
