The ticket queue at the Wimbledon Championships - one of the tournament’s most famous sights - will stay in the leafy surroundings it moved into two years ago, event organisers have said.

Every year hundreds of spectators wait for hours outside the All England Club, with some camping overnight, to bag tickets that have been held back to be sold on the day of play.

The queue used to snake down Church Road and Wimbledon Park Road - but two years ago it was moved into nearby Wimbledon Park on a trial basis.

And now a legal agreement has been signed with Merton Council to ensure the queue stays in the park for at least the next five years.

Ian Ritchie, chief executive of the All England Club, said the queue had become a “legendary” part of the tournament and moving it into the park made the process safer and more efficient for ticket buyers.
