By Community Correspondent Emily Horton It is a well known fact that young women in the UK are exceeding young men in almost every aspect of education. 60% of graduate from higher education are now female. So you would assume that 60% of senior positions in large corporations would be given to women. However this is not the case when you examine who is getting the higher powered jobs, they are still men.

At the Ursuline High School the new prefect team has been selected, to help lead the school this coming year. In order to inspire the girls to realise their full potential as female leaders, Professor Susan Vinnicombe from Cranfield Management School gave a motivating presentation about the different attitude of successful female leaders. The presentation was based around 12 different aspects of leadership; these included ethical dilemmas and how to bring out the best in people. The one that personally interested me the most was the concept that a leader should always be concerned with the welfare of her people. There is no I in team. A leader should look after her fellow workers, to ensure they are doing their job correctly and efficiently. Furthermore she should be approachable and understanding, yet is capable of making a stand when her workers are not living up her expectations.

Leaders shape our future. Luckily for the Ursuline High School they have a strong committed team, who will inevitably make the future of their school bigger, better and brighter!
