Residents who secured thousands of pounds of funding to restore a public tennis court after it fell into disrepair over 25 years celebrated its re-opening on Saturday.
The newly refurbished court on the corner of Rutlish Road and Melbourne Road can now be used for free by anyone after the Wilmore End Residents Association (WERA) secured £93,000 from the London Marathon Charitable Trust and landfill company, Veridor Credits.
Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond was among the guests at the official opening on Saturday and even took to the court, playing against some of the dozens of children at the launch.
WERA chairman, Abdul Latif, said: “We were also lucky with the weather and missed the rain by about an hour or so. Everyone enjoyed the opening ceremony and appreciated the free tennis courts facility for the community.”
