HIGH DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP IN OLD COULSDON The Rotary Club of Coulsdon has celebrated another successful ‘Games Evening’ held in the Cameron Hall in Old Coulsdon.
The annual event was conceived during the last Olympics when the idea of running a smaller and less energetic version of the Olympics was devised by the club.
26 members, family and friends gathered and after being separated into various teams undertook such less energetic games as Hoop La, Putting and High Diving (dropping a ping pong ball into a glass of water from a height of 1 metre whilst blindfolded).
The competitors took it in turns to play 8 games including the marathon which involved tearing a continuous strip of paper from one page of The Daily Telegraph. The winning competitors managed to produce an unbroken strip of over 60 feet! The event was not only enjoyed by all the competitors but also raised over £250 for local and international charities.
The organiser Rotarian John Pawling is already planning next year’s event and added: “It was great fun and everybody had a really good time and judging by some of the conversations about the rules, the event was taken very seriously by some members. However, the fact that we made over £250 for charity made everybody smile in the end – they were all winners.”
