As a teenager living and attending school in Sutton there are opportunities aimed at extending not only social circles and confidence levels but also comfort zones. For example in many schools all over the country students have been offered the chance to take part in an international scheme called World Challenge. This organisations aim is to extend the minds of the youth today by challenging their view of the world.
In the summer of next year a group of students from Glenthorne High school, including myself, will be travelling to Thailand for three weeks. To travel the group will have to raise nearly £3000 each, that cost will have to be covered by fundraising and other events through which they can earn the amount. ‘Phenomenal, life changing and the experience of a lifetime’ is how Shawney Murphy described the month long trip to Peru last summer. Extensive training and fundraising has to be done in the fifteen months leading up to the expedition which can only be described as amazing.
Although not all students can afford to take part in such expensive opportunities it is fair to say that in the borough of Sutton there are many exciting and adventurous chances to be taken and experiences to be had.
