A 25 year-old mechanic caught “power sliding” his car at a roundabout has been ordered to pay a fine and received points on his license.

Carl Fleming, from Ryebrook Road in Leatherhead, was arrested last year after officers saw him sliding his car at the Plough roundabout, Kingston Road, Leatherhead.

He was arrested by Mole Valley Neighbourhood officers.

Fleming was convicted at South East Surrey Magistrates’ Court of driving without due care and attention and received five points on his license, a £300 fine, and ordered to pay £300 costs to the court.

Neighbourhood officer PC Jason Woods said: “This was the second time Fleming has been convicted for aggressive driving on this roundabout in two years.

"I hope our zero-tolerance approach to this kind of anti-social driving reminds motorists that Surrey Police will use all available powers and, where necessary, take instant action against anyone driving in this manner.

“The penalties imposed on this driver should stand as a deterrent to others seeking to get their fun in this way.

"People who indulge in bad driving, or who perform stunts such as ‘power sliding’, are selfish. Not only does their behaviour annoy and put at risk other road users but it can be very dangerous for pedestrians."

The Drive Smart campaign was launched in September 2009, by Surrey Police and Surrey County Council.
