South London Swimming Club's Emily Morris endured the most dangerous and unpredictable waters in the world to be hailed the first British woman to cross Cook Strait.

She completed the swim in nine hours and 58 minutes, battling complex tides, very cold water, sharks and jelly fish.

Emily is hoping to raise £5,000 to purchase a disabled chair hoist at Hampton Open Air pool so it can be accessible to the whole community.

The Swimming Club are also aiming to create a float representing Tooting Bec Lido in preparation for Trashcatcher's Carnival coming to Tooting on July 4.

The carnival will try to create beauty from rubbish in an attempt to explore our relationship with Earth.

To commemorate the English poet Lord Byron's inaugural swim across the Hellespont 200 years ago Swimtrek are to participate in the swim on May 3.

The Byron Swim Festival will be held over the first Bank holiday weekend in May and will include seminars, films and discussions.
