A 10-year-old golfer is celebrating after scoring a hole in one with his new club - a feat his golf-mad dad has never managed in 30 years playing the game.
Paul Smith, 47, was left red-faced during his birthday round at Addington Court Golf Club on Saturday, when son Oliver drove a 135 yard shot straight into the hole from the seventh tee.
The pint-sized putter had double reason to celebrate after getting one over on best friend Harry Deans, who managed the same feat during his own dad’s birthday game last year.
Mr Smith said: “It’s unbelievable really.
“It was a birthday thing for me, to go and play a round of golf at Addington Court, and he’s the one who managed a hole in one.
“Just to see his face was the best present i could have asked for.
“He had just bought a new club as well, a driver, and he wanted to try it out, so it was a brilliant way to start.”
Mr Smith put the achievement down to Langley Park teaching pro Tim Trodd, who has coached both boys over the past three years.
He said: “My thanks really have to go to Tim.
“How many pros can say they have got two boys aged 10 who have both got holes in one?
“In 30 years I’ve never come close to a hole in one and he’s only been playing three or four - it’s a bit annoying really.
“I’m going to have to step up my game.”
