There was lots of excited chatter as the winners of the Croydon Champions art competition gathered to see their images of the borough in print.

Christopher Toomey, 11, Aretha Robertson, 14, Charles Hall, eight, Azariah Benjamin, six, Fintan Morrison, 10, and Sinead O'Brien, 12, eagerly looked at their work, which has been printed on to cards to be sold to raise money for Croydon Carers Contact - Croydon Champions charity for 2005 - when they visited our offices last Thursday.

Nizam Chowdhury, from Croydon Carers Contact, said: "I am sure these young people and others involved in this initiative will feel very proud and have a sense of satisfaction that selling their art work as notelets will hugely benefit the work of Croydon Carers Contact and its contribution to our local community.

"With the money raised, we plan to buy equipment which will enable us to raise the profile of carers in Croydon, hence making a difference to the quality of their lives."

Croydon Carers Contact provides support, help and advice for people who care for their family, friends and loved ones across the borough.

The children seemed to take all the attention in their stride but were slightly embarrassed about having their pictures taken in front of family and friends.

Unfortunately, Maria Lonergan, five, could not make it to the presentation but her winning picture of a red bus is printed below.

The notelets are available in packs of eight with envelopes, containing one of each winning design at a cost of £2 each or £5 for three packs. All proceeds from the sale of the notelets will go to Croydon Carers Contact.
