Floral tributes mark the spot where a dad from Selsdon was killed in a motorcycle accident.

John Pennington, 26, died after his Honda motorbike collided with a silver Citroen Xantia car in Bromley at around 3.15pm on Saturday, August 20.

Ambulance crews took Mr Pennington to the nearby Princess Royal Hospital in Farnborough but he died from his injuries.

A postmortem held last Tuesday gave the cause of death as multiple injuries. On the same day, an inquest was opened and adjourned at Croydon Coroner's Court.

Mr Pennington lived with his wife and children in Dulverton Road, Selsdon.

Floral tributes and cards now mark the scene of his death.

A note to Penno' from Amy, Terry and Ellis says: "You were a great mate, always making everyone laugh with your madness and a fantastic dad and husband to your family. We will miss bumping into you out and about and all of your generosity."

Another to Nesty, signed from Nick, Alie and Bradley Williams, reads: "We can't believe your life has been taken away like this. Our thoughts will always be with you. We will miss you, your smile and your laughter."

Eyewitnesses described a "sickening" noise before they rushed to the scene of the crash, at the junction of Oakley Road and Bromley Common.

Andy Field, 24, who was one of the first on the scene, said: "I've heard that sort of smash before. You know someone's not coming out of it alive.

"He hit the side of the car like hitting a brick wall. He had no chance to slow down."

It is thought Mr Pennington was thrown off the bike and hit a sign in the middle of the road. Although a passerby attempted to resuscitate him, it is thought he lost too much blood.

Mr Field added: "I'm a bike rider myself and you feel sorry for the car driver. He's got to live with it and probably didn't even see him."

The driver of the Citroen was also taken to hospital but was later discharged.

Witnesses should call the police on 020 8284 1574 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 with any information.
