We read of several letters where Croydon folk have moved away from Croydon to find fresh pastures.

I have travelled to many far away places and have enjoyed myself but at the end of the holiday have always been glad to return home to Croydon.

There have been times when I have been away for long periods and have actually felt homesick and when the plane has touched down in England I cannot adequately describe the feeling of joy.

I was born in the old Pridham Road East in Thornton Heath in 1930 and as a young boy became my late dad's constant companion. We used to visit the Rex cinema in Norbury every Tuesday evening and I would meet him there as he travelled home from working in the borough of Bermondsey.

On Saturday afternoons after he got home from work we would visit either the old Croydon Odeon in North End or the Davis Theatre in the High Street and we would usually travel by the 42 tram. We would go to the pictures regularly twice a week.

When the war ended and league football returned to the scene, our venue changed and we would watch Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturdays.

I have deep roots and golden memories of the old Pridham Road East and my heart is still there.
