Old Walcountians 14
Mitcham 19
A below-strength Old Walcountians narrowly lost to local rivals Mitcham on Saturday.
The Old Boys took the lead after 15 minutes when Chris Mockford rifled over a penalty, but in the 32nd minute, Mitcham secured the vital breakthrough when their blind-side flanker touched down for a converted try.
Mitcham struck again early in the second half, before Mockfield's second penalty gave the Old Boys hope.
But Mitcham were gifted a try as the Old Boys foolishly tried to run the ball out from their line to settle the win, before a Jo van Rhynberg try and a Mockfield penalty gave the hosts late hope.
