OMW 26 JERSEY 30

Old Mid-Whitgiftian got an early indication of what is to come ahead this season after being beaten by a classy Jersey side on Saturday.

After the visitors scored an early try, Mids got back into the game with a penalty from Mark Macaskill.

But within five minutes Jersey stretched their lead with another try, before Mids got back on terms with a penalty from Macaskill and a try from Simon Ellis, converted by Macaskill.

Macaskill extended his side's lead with another penalty, but Jersey came back again with a try, this time unconverted, and went into the break one up.

After 20 minutes of the second half Macaskill hit yet another penalty to put his side two points ahead.

But after the visitors converted a penalty, they added a further try, conversion and penalty to make it 30-9, before a late Mids rally saw another Ellis try and a Macaskill conversion to give the Croydon team some consolation .
