OLD MID-WHITGIFTIAN 169-9
OLD EMANUEL 93

Old Mid-Whitgiftian completed their league campaign with an emphatic win at Old Emanuel but Purley's victory over Cranleigh consigned them to another season in Division Two.

Mids faced the tougher fixture of the two promotion contenders against an Old Emanuel side desperate for a victory to avoid relegation.

Mids openers Gary Butcher and Andy Bennett found runs hard to come by and after Bennett was adjudged leg-before to leg spinner Arvind Maan, the pressure began to increase as Mids lost four wickets in five overs.

However, the improvement in the OMW middle order this season was illustrated by a fine stand of 64 between Jamal Babu and Richard Piggin.

A quickfire 20 from Tony Brugnoli including two sixes enabled Mids to declare after 51 overs on 169-9.

Two early wickets from Gary Butcher and one from Babu then left the hosts in trouble as they slumped to 26 for 3.

Maan kept Old Emanuel in the game but once he was given out leg before for 38 a capitulation ensued.

The majority of the remaining batsmen were guilty of throwing their wickets away cheaply as Old Emanuel collapsed to 93 all out and were relegated to Division Three.
