Budding athletes met one of the country's most-promising track stars at an event organised by Croydon Sports Partnership (CSP).

Croydon Harriers 400m runner Martyn Rooney, who recently ran in the athletics World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, and made his international Grand Prix debut earlier this month, presented the young athletes with their certificates.

The annual event gives children an opportunity to participate in athletic disciplines, including track events, long jump and high jump.

Jackie Bedwell, sports development officer for CSP, said: "For the kids to meet someone like Martyn is great and a very good experience for them. The fact that he is from Croydon is great and for the kids to meet someone like that is fantastic."
