Michael Starks and Nathan Best were on target as Hounslow Wanderers beat Southall 2-1 in the Middlesex County League Premier Division on Saturday.

Hounslow dominated possession from the start, but several missed chances left them fearing it could be one of those days.

That sense heightened when Southall’s centre forward latched onto a through ball and converted his first real chance.

Hounslow’s constant pressure, that had brought some fine saves from the visiting keeper, finally paid off in the second half.

A superb 40 yard cross from the purple haze’s Spencer Mitchell found Michael Starks on the edge of Southall’s area with quite a bit left to do, unfazed ‘Starksy’ volleyed the ball into the top corner of the goal with a perfect technique that any footballer would be proud of.

This sparked further confidence within the Wanderers camp and the winner wasn’t far away. Nathan Best taking advantage of a crowded area, bravely headed the ball home to score his first competitive goal for the club.

Wanderers will now take on ground sharing rivals Marsh Rangers in a must win match to keep them in the hunt for a top four finish.
