Merton businesses are being encouraged to go green after land fill tax increased to £48 per tonne, and will increase a further £8 each year until 2014.
Businesses feeling the strain and wanting to improve their green credentials should consider contacting Go Green Plus, a free advice service set up by Merton Chamber of Commerce.
Helen Clark Bell, project manager, said: “This programme allows businesses to implement different environmental practices, from recycling, introducing eco travel plans, to energy efficiency and water reduction measures.”
The service offers 12 hours free support to businesses and has numerous tips to help reduce waste and land electricity use.
Their top tips include double sided printing, centralised bins, replacing paper or plastic cups with mugs and using low energy light bulbs.
