Leatherhead Museum has now opened after a revamp by a team of volunteers during the closed season.
The museum is housed in Hampton Cottage, a timbered 17th century house in Church Street, Leatherhead.
The volunteers worked up a sweat swapping two substantial glass display cabinets up the narrow steep staircase to improve the exhibitions.
Archeological exhibits have been returned to the museum’s store while more room is given over to the area’s industrial history with displays about the Ashe Laboratories, and the Ronson and Goblin factories.
Recent improvements include easier access to the ground floor for people with mobility problems.
The museum is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 1pm to 4pm and on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free but donations are welcome.
