Point FM has been causing quite a stir over the last two weeks in the run up to Easter.
The Southwest London Community Radio station has been broadcasting from above the newly refurbished POINT café on the Broadway in Cheam Village.
The station is being run entirely by friends and members of Cheam Baptist Church.
Throughout the two weeks POINT FM broadcast 24 hours of music, news and interviews from a cross section of the local community; including Police Borough Commander Guy Ferguson and Paul Burstow MP.
A spokesman for the station said: “Local schools had a spot every morning and afternoon. Many of the local shops tuned in on a daily basis for their customers to listen in.
“But it’s not just local residents that have been enjoying listening. The station received texts and messages of support from as far a-field as Australia, South America and India.
John Kennedy, chief engineer, Mark Mowbray, presenter and programme controller and Pastor Tim Saunders were instrumental in setting up the station with Radio Jackie providing back up assistance throughout the project.
Cheam Baptist Church are building on the radio’s success with a free event at the Secombe Theatre, April 26 to May 1.
There will be live music every night and a guest speaker including Henry Olonga the former Zimbabwe test cricketer.
The event is free but please book tickets via the Secombe Theatre Box Office on 0208 770 6990 or Cheam Baptist Church Office 0208 642 5070.
