Welcome to the Furzedown Community Network What is Furzedown?
Furzedown is an electoral ward in Tooting at the southeast tip of the borough of Wandsworth, bordering Merton and Lambeth. The ward is roughly in the shape of a kite, hence our famous kite logo.
What is the Furzedown Community Network?
The Furzedown Community Network (FCN), which has been going since February 2001, is made up of local people keen to promote a sense of community in Furzedown. We work to improve our neighbourhood, which includes organising the annual Furzedown Festival and smaller events such as quiz nights. The activities undertaken reflect the interests and energy of the group members who organise them.
Find out more at http://www.furzedown.net.
What is the FCN chatroom?
The FCN chatroom is a moderated Yahoo group set up by the FCN to help residents of Furzedown to get to know each other (via email) – it is used for making local friends, sharing information about the area, asking for advice, offering items free or for sale, advising of immediate local issues (burglaries, road closures etc), asking to borrow items, help with finding a dentist or doctor, etc.
There are relevant postings from our local councillors, the police Safer Neighbourhood Team and Wandsworth Council. In 2009, 165 people joined the chatroom and there are now 660 local members who can reach out to the rest of the group with just one email! To join the chatroom, just go to http://www.furzedown.net/join_chat.html, type in your email address, press Submit and you’re part of the group!
