A Kingston police sergeant hopes to raise £2,500 for an autism charity that has helped his son, by running the Virgin London Marathon in April.
Nicholas Ellis’s five-year-old son was diagnosed with autism two years ago, and his family sought support from the National Autistic Society (NAS).
As well as raising money for the charity, Mr Ellis hopes to create awareness of the condition after admitting he did not know a lot about it himself at first.
He said: “I came across the NAS and they have provided our family with a wealth of support ever since, now I want to give something back so they can continue to help families in a similar position to ourselves.”
The marathon, taking place on April 24, is 26.2 miles from Greenwich through east London, past Canary Wharf and Embankment, to St James’s Park.
