When the bottom fell out of the luxury kitchen industry during the recession, entrepreneur Garnett Cohen decided it was time to reinvest in another line of business.

Having no previous experience in retail, the 39-year-old taught himself the ropes by selling goods at car boot sales, until he struck upon the idea of starting a computer repair shop.

Just over a year later, and Mr Cohen’s Easy PC business has grown from a small stall in the Tram Centre to a full shop and repair centre in St George’s Walk shopping arcade.

The store prides itself on its super-fast turnaround times for customers, and has found a unique niche with it’s console repair service.

Mr Cohen said: “I felt that the computer repair industry in Croydon isn’t particularly good.

“We wanted to make the turn-around time quicker for customers.

“We’re the only place in south London offering this sort of service.”

Mr Cohen said his business had gone from strength to strength since being given £250 by Croydon Enterprise to fund his stall, and has recently signed deals to field local repair jobs from computer game giants Game and Gamestation.

The firm has also expanded to cover repairing iPods, and prides itself on a “no fix, no fee’ policy.

Mr Cohen said: “You’ve got to keep trying to become better and improve, and what we’re saying to customers is that we care for you.”
