The home town of Kate Moss became the most stylish place to be this weekend as crowds flocked to the annual three day Fashion Festival.

The festival kicked off with a fashionable flashmob who gathered at midday in North End on April 23 to strike a pose and create a real life frozen photograph.

After two minutes, the group of strangers, who heard about the event from social networking sites, dispersed seamlessly from the area, having made living art all in the name of the Croydon Fashion Festival.

The Whitgift and Centrale shopping centres held a number of events over the course of the weekend, including edgy fashion shows with street dancers, free runners and skaters.

Croydon College fashion students were on hand to give indian head massages and help with fashion advice and some of their innovative designs were on display.

On Sunday the borough’s top dance groups performed in Whitgift square, including Croydon College Dance Group; Peridot, a local all-male group and Love 2 Dance, a group of talented local young people performing the latest street dance.

At Centrale image consultants were on hand to advise shoppers on their summer style. Professional make-up artists from Bare Escentuals were giving mini-makeovers using their bareMineral brand throughout the weekend and advising women about the best products for their skin.

Ros Morgan, manager of BID which sponsored the event, said: “I’m delighted to have seen so many people at the free events in Croydon this weekend.

“I want to say a big thanks to all our partners who helped make Croydon Fashion Festival such a great success.

"Croydon BID is committed to celebrating the many excellent reasons to come to Croydon Town Centre, and I’m pleased that there were such large numbers in the area over the weekend to experience what great facilities we have here.”

As part of Croydon Fashion Festival a competition was launched to uncover some top local fashion talent. And the Croydon Charity Shop Challenge unearthed talent in the community.

Sam Rowe was the clear victor, with nearly 100 votes. Sam will receive a two-week work placement with the House of Fraser Visual Merchandising Manager and a Nano Ipod from vrSoftware.

All other entrants will receive an Envibe Certificate to highlight that they used recycled products and are environmentally aware.
