Shopmobility, based in the Leatherhead Swan Centre, has bought two new scooters thanks to a donation from energy company ExxonMobil.
In 2003, ExxonMobil assisted with the launch of the Shopmobility scheme in Leatherhead and it has taken off in a big way.
Its success has meant two more scooters were required and ExxonMobil decided to help out.
Mark Samson, Chairman of Leatherhead Shopmobility, said: "This was a unique opportunity to increase the number of scooters available. We are extremely grateful to ExxonMobil for their generous assistance in ensuring that those less mobile can continue to shop and use the facilities of Leatherhead town centre.”
Rene Rushton, a Shopmobility member, said: "It is a great scheme and we couldn't manage without it." She added: "Using the scheme regularly, it never fails to amaze me that people are so fascinated by the scooters that they come and chat to us. This gives shopping a social aspect it didn't have before."
Stella Crossley, Community Affairs for ExxonMobil, said: "We were delighted to help Shopmobility with the purchase of the new scooters, as supporting our local community is important to us.”
