After watching his Crystal Palace side fail to get the win that would have confirmed their Championship status with one match remaining, manager Paul Hart was left to reflect on what might have been.

"We set out to win the game, we tried to win the game against an extremely good West Bromwich Albion side and I felt we continued that approach from start to finish.

"Yet we were unlucky at the end. Our keeper played well, we defended like Trojans, we ran about and we had fantastic support, a tribute to a great football club.

The players are tired – they played a chunk of the game with ten men, we’ve thrown everything at it and people have worked hard.

"But they see we have a good chance of staying up.”

With only a point needed to avoid relegation, Hart was insistent his team would got for all three in the final game of the season away at Hillsborough;.

“I don’t think you can go for the draw, I think you have to go to play to win.

"If you look at it we are in a better position than Sheffield Wednesday at this moment in time and we have to make it count. Our away form is excellent so it is a game to look forward to.

"We’ve got to turn out another performance of that calibre and we’ll be fine.”

Midfielder Darren Ambrose, who had a shot cleared off the line in the 96th minute was also bullish about the trip to South Yorkshire.

"(Sheffield Wednesday) are going to be more nervous than us.

"They need a win and we have the team and the players to stop that."

Captain Shaun Derry called on the players to take the spirit of the West Brom performance into the crunch game against Sheffield Wednesday.

“We have to set our stall out, be hard to beat and win the game. Whatever happens next week, these boys try every single week, whenever that shirt is put on their back.

"I’ve never played in a team like it.”
