Mayday Hospital bosses have launched an investigation after doctors failed to diagnose three young children who had broken bones.

Twenty-two-month-old Carly Moody, a twin, spent two days in agony after doctors at the hospital failed to spot she had snapped her ankle in March.

Her parents Melanie and Wayne made a formal complaint to the hospital.

Melanie, 31, said: “The doctor came out with a consultant and said the leg was not broken.”

“She was crying and really lethargic as well. She could not put her leg down. She just sat on the sofa and would not get off it.

“When we went back to A&E, my mother came with me, she looked over the doctor’s shoulder and said she could see the clear break in the x-ray.”

In the same month doctors failed to spot three-year-old Regan Mercer had broken both his arms, only diagnosing one of the breaks.

And doctors did not even X-ray 13-month-old Zoe Meade who broke her arm on boxing day. She was sent home with her mother Jasmin Souesi who was told to give her painkillers. The break was only seen when she returned the next day.

A spokeswoman from Mayday Hospital said: “The Trust is sorry that Ms Souesi was not happy with the treatment Zoe received at our Accident and Emergency department and has begun a formal investigation into her complaint.

"We will be in touch with her as soon as the investigation is completed to answer all her questions.

“Whenever there are a number of similar incidents the Trust routinely launches an investigation to check if there are any underlying issues. This process is underway.”
