Danny Butterfield insists Crystal Palace’s myriad of troubles this season with give them the edge in their winner takes all relegation showdown with Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

The Eagles head to Hillsborough knowing a point will be enough to secure their Championship survival.

And defender Butterfield reckons Palace are well equipped to deal with the pressure-cooker atmosphere.

He said: “We have had pressure on us from the minute we went into administration so this is nothing new to us.

“Throughout the season we have had so much thrown at us but we keep taking it.

“Players have been shipped out and managers have come and gone but as a group we are still there fighting.

“It is us or them and we have a great chance of staying up.

“Four or five weeks ago we would have taken this scenario.

“Our away form is good and we are all very confident that we can go up there and get the result we need.”

Wednesday are expecting a sell-out for the clash with reduced ticket prices hinting at a crowd upwards of 30,000.

And Butterfield has warned his teammates to be on their toes.

The 30-year-old added: “We must not let the occasion get to us in any way at all.

“We know what we have to do and the simple fact is we have to stay in this league, even if it takes us until the last minute to do it.

“If we stay in this division it will be a great achievement for all of us.

“Everyone here has put their futures on hold and we are all champing at the bit to get out there and get the result.

“We have some experienced heads in the squad and that will be vital in the dressing room before the game.

“If we could get an early goal that would be a massive boost and we have to try and win the game.”
