London’s deputy Mayor Simon Milton has met with Surrey County Council leader Councillor Andrew Povey at City Hall, to discuss the capital’s growing population and the potential impact on services in Surrey.
Coun Povey said: “I was pleased to hear that Boris Johnson would be open to the idea of joining forces to call for extra infrastructure investment in the region.”
With London’s population set to grow from 7.63m to 8.89m by 2031, there are worries this will impact on Surrey’s services such as education, social care and transport.
Coun Povey reiterated his demand the Government prioritises investment in the region’s roads.
Surrey residents annually provide the Exchequer with more than £700m in road taxes, but only receive £14m per year for highways.
The two men also discussed super-fast broadband being set-up and how to make the most from the London Olympics.
