Some of Sutton’s leading business figures picked the brains of Liberal Democrat candidate Tom Brake in a Question Time-style debate at Wilson’s school in Wallington.

The Carshalton and Wallington parliamentary candidate was joined at the debate by entrepreneur Joe Layton-McIntosh, Lorraine Tighe, former contestant on “The Apprentice”, former Labour mayor of Croydon Jane Avis and Tory candidate Richard Ottaway.

More than 100 business people from the Sutton and Croydon area, as well as pupils from Wilson’s, attended and topics covered during the debate included the need to boost small business revenues within the Sutton area.

David Thackray of Venture Catalyst, who chaired the event, said: “Response to this evening’s discussions has been overwhelmingly positive from all the business owners who attended,”

“In the current economic climate, small decisions in government can have huge ramifications for those at the sharp end of business, and our members have been encouraged by the response that their suggestions have received from our panellists.”
