Newsquest, which owns the Surrey Comet and the Kingston Guardian, took a lead in banning adult services ads in July 2008, after becoming convinced of the link between the adverts and sex trafficking.
During the trial, the jury heard Nikki Chen, who has already admitted being a madam, advertised her brothels in local newspapers including the Uxbridge Gazette, owned by Trinity Mirror, the same company as the Kingston Informer, under the guise of massage services.
The court heard the adverts used phrases like “Calming and relaxing massage” or “A different and gorgeous girl every day”, and officers only had to make a phone call to be offered sex.
