Gumley House Convent School has officially opened the ‘Street Gym’; the new urban way of getting fit, for free, in your own school, when YOU want! After being hidden under plastic sheets for weeks and whispers of “some sort of a gym” being built, the unravelling made the students of Gumley see what the ‘Street Gym’ actually is. It is a gym that can be used in the coldest of days (yes, even in England!) all the way through to the blistering heat of the summer. It mixes tone, cardio and stretching in an easy to use and colourful way. Francesca Dell’Anno mentions how at first it seemed too easy and “too much like a gym for a primary school”, but after an introductory lesson (compulsory for every year) she found it very useful in gaining stamina.
Louisa Etchells, a Year 10 student at Gumley House Convent School, says “I love the Street Gym! At first I was a bit disappointed but after a few tries I find that it really helps me and its fun doing it during lunch or break or even before school!”
Ailis Fahim, Year 11, another student currently at Gumley House Covent School described it as “easy to use” and “very helpful if you want to exercise without waiting until your sixteen to get a proper gym membership”.
The Street Gym is open to almost everyone and many of the students find themselves rushing to not miss out on their favourite machine.
