It is your last chance to nominate a hero for a Croydon Champions award.
Dozens of nominations have flooded in over the past few months, but we are still searching for more from the arts champions, sports champions, team of the year, parent of the year and charity volunteer categories.
If you know an unsung hero whose contribution to the borough deserves to be recognised or an individual who has achieved something outstanding, nominate them for an award by filling out the form below, calling 020 8330 9559.
The latest nominee is an 18-year-old girl who dreamed of performing in the West End but had to give up a promising career when she had photosensitive epilepsy diagnosed.
Laura-Anne Dellar, of South Croydon, was devastated when she was told by doctors, halfway through her course in performing arts at Lambeth College, she would never step foot on a stage again.
The talented teenager battled through an average of one traumatic seizure a week last year.
She said: “My whole life changed, I had to be careful about the little things everyone else takes for granted. I cannot drive, I cannot watch certain films, if we are going past an ambulance someone has to warn me about the flashing lights.
“I never knew what was happening to me during a seizure, I would not remember five minutes before the seizure or five minutes after. It was really hard on my family and friends to see me convulsing and foaming at the mouth.
“To begin with I shut myself off from everyone and locked myself in my room, I wouldn’t even talk to my mum, I was so upset. I have been dancing since I was three and I have always wanted to go into musical theatre.
“I would not have got through this without my mum, she is my rock. Whenever I broke down and cried she would tell me this is just one more hurdle for me to get over.”
The brave decided if she could not act on stage, she would help out backstage and after graduating with three merits in performing arts, has just enrolled at a college in Exeter to study hair and beauty.
Her mum Tracey Stone who nominated Laura in the Child of Courage category, said: “I am so proud of her for overcoming this and getting a qualification.”
