Residents have won a small victory after protesting against plans to remove a pedestrian crossing.
The crossing in Collingwood Road – installed eight years ago, after a safety campaign by parents – could have been scrapped under Transport for London’s (TfL) review.
But councillors Lester Holloway, Marlene Heron and deputy council leader Councillor Ruth Dombey said its axing would put residents at risk.
Now Sutton Council has told the transport authority it cannot proceed with its proposal.
Coun Holloway said: “I am delighted the threat to this crossing has now gone. TfL’s suggestion it was removed made no sense whatsoever, and the council has told TfL it is a non-starter, not least because of the outcry from residents and ward councillors.”
